Hopefully this never happens, but in the case your pet does go missing, a registered pet will be protected by the BC Pet Registry.
Your pet is brought in to a veterinary or shelter where their microchip is scanned or tattoo code is read. Your pet’s ID is searched on bcpetregistry.ca.
You are contacted using the phone number or email on your pet’s profile. If you cannot be reached, the co-owner or emergency contact will be contacted.

When registered, a microchip is the most reliable form of permanent identification (ID) for pets.
A microchip is a form of permanent ID that identifies your pet should they become lost. A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and provides your pet with lifetime protection. Each microchip has a unique ID number assigned only to your pet.
Once recorded in the BC Pet Registry, your pet’s microchip can be scanned by participating veterinarians and animal shelters anywhere in the province to verify their identity and guardian.
