Pets can slip a collar, but they can’t slip a microchip!

When registered, a microchip is the most reliable form of permanent identification (ID) for pets.

A microchip is a form of permanent ID that identifies your pet should they become lost. A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and provides your pet with lifetime protection. Each microchip has a unique ID number assigned only to your pet.

Once recorded in the BC Pet Registry, your pet’s microchip can be scanned by participating veterinarians and animal shelters anywhere in the province to verify their identity and guardian.

Why should I choose a microchip for my pet?

Learn why microchipping is the best option.

1. Microchips are the most reliable form of permanent ID.

Microchips are the most reliable form of permanent ID for pets, when implanted properly and registered. Animals with permanent identification are reunited with their guardians in far greater numbers than animals with no identification.

2. Easy and quick procedure.

Microchip implantation is comparable to a routine vaccination. There is no need for anaesthetic when implanting a microchip and the procedure is over in minutes! Are you interested in getting a microchip for your pet? Find a veterinarian in your area with the BC Pet Registry location finder!

3. Microchips last the lifetime of your pet

A microchip is not a GPS or tracking device. Microchips use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology which is only activated with the use of a microchip scanner. They do not require batteries like a GPS and last the lifetime of the animal.

4. Internationally traceable.

All microchips registered with the BC Pet Registry are traceable internationally via the American Animal Hospital Association’s (AAHA) universal pet microchip lookup, petmicrochiplookup.org. This partnership means that you can travel with your pet with confidence that you’re protected!

5. BC Pet Registry microchips are tested and safe.

The BC Pet Registry uses International Standards Organization (ISO) microchip technology, which is recommended by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA). Find out where you can get your pet microchipped today.
