BC Pet Registry attended Friendly Paws Society’s National Pet Day Sunday Market to educate pet guardians about the importance of microchip and registration. With free microchip scans and on-site support, we helped attendees check their pets’ microchip status and guided them through the registration process. Learn why registration matters and how you can protect your pet for life.
BC Pet Registry at National Pet Day Market with Friendly Paws Society
On April 13, 2025, BC Pet Registry proudly joined the National Pet Day Sunday Market hosted by Friendly Paws Society at Southlands Riding Club. This event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with the community and educate pet guardians on one critical topic: microchip and registration.
Why Microchip and Registration Matter
Our mission at BC Pet Registry, a program of the BC SPCA, is to help reunite more lost pets with their families. While microchipping is a vital first step, registration is what links your contact information to your pet’s permanent ID. Without it, even the best microchip won’t help bring your lost companion home.

What We Offered at the Booth
Throughout the event, our team provided:
- Free microchip scans
- Registration status checks
- Education on tattoos and other forms of permanent ID
- Answers to common questions on ownership transfers and microchip myths
One of our goals was to provide step-by-step guidance for those who needed to update or register their information. Many pet guardians left with a better understanding of their pet’s needs and what they can do today to improve their pet’s safety.
Results from the Day

During the event, we scanned 66 microchipped pets. Of those, 14 were not registered in any North American registry. That means over 20% of these pets wouldn’t be traceable if lost. It’s a concerning number, and it reinforces why we continue showing up at community events like this—to close that gap.

Mark Your Calendar for the Next Event

We’ll be back at PawsFest Outdoor Pet Festival hosted by Friendly Paws Society at Sunset Beach Park on July 12, 2025. Bring your pet to our booth to get a free microchip scan. Be part of the 80% of responsible pet owners who keep their microchip registrations up to date.
It only takes one minute to double-check your pet’s microchip number and update your information. For those not yet registered, a registration fee of $45 will protect your pet for lifetime. At the same time, your registration also helps support the lifesaving works of the BC SPCA.
Thank You to Our Volunteers!
We couldn’t have done it without our amazing volunteers—Hoda, Javed, and Shanita. Hoda is an alum and always steps up to support the team with dedication. For Javed and Shanita, it was their first time volunteering with us, and we hope they walked away inspired and ready to spread the word about microchipping and registration. Your help made all the difference!
