We're A Pet Loving Community

Our Mission:

Have you ever wondered what brings us together? It's our love for pets!

For over 125 years, the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) has stood as a beacon of hope for animals. Our journey, fueled by compassion and care, has led us to establish life-saving programs like the BC Pet Registry, British Columbia’s exclusive provincial pet ID database and a cornerstone of our Pet Lovers Community.

In 2015, we embarked on a heartfelt mission with the BC Pet Registry, aiming to bring more lost pets back into the loving arms of their families. In Canada, thousands of pets wander away from home each year, often due to the absence of registered identification. This reality makes our program more vital than ever.

Our dream is to see every pet – whether microchipped, tattooed, or licensed – securely registered in our provincial pet ID database. This is not just about reducing the time lost pets spend in shelters; it’s about rekindling the joy of reunions and strengthening the bonds within our Pet Lovers Community.

Take, for instance, the story of Cleo’s Incredible Journey, a tale that warms the heart and reaffirms our mission. Or the heartwarming reunion of a stray cat with its original guardian, thanks to the dedication of our community members. And who can forget the miraculous tale of the cat found safe in Nanaimo, 150 km from where it was lost, or the against-all-odds reunion of a family with their beloved cat?

These stories are the heartbeat of our community, showcasing the unbreakable bond between pets and their families. They inspire us to continue our work, ensuring every pet in British Columbia has a safe haven within our Pet Lovers Community.

Join us in this noble cause, and together, let’s create a world where every pet is cherished and safely reunited with their family.

The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) has been protecting animals for more than 120 years. Today, we continue our mission with life-saving programs such as the BC Pet Registry: British Columbia’s only provincial pet ID database.

The BC Pet Registry was created in 2015 with the sole goal of reuniting more lost pets with their people. With over thousands of pets lost in Canada each year due to a lack of registered identification (ID), the program is more crucial than ever.

By having more pets’ microchips, tattoos, and licenses registered with our provincial pet ID database, we hope to reverse this trend, decreasing the length of stay for missing pets in shelters and increasing the amount of lost pets that are reunited with their families.

Community Partners

In the heart of every community, there’s a special bond that unites us all – our love for pets. At the BC Pet Registry, we’re proud to collaborate with veterinary clinics and shelters across Canada, forming a network of care and safety. Together, we’re dedicated to reuniting lost pets with their families, turning anxious searches into joyful reunions.

As a pet owner, you’re part of this incredible journey. By microchipping and registering your pets with the BC Pet Registry at any of our participating veterinary clinics, you’re not just ensuring their safety; you’re strengthening our Pet Lovers Community. BC Pet Registry Grant Application

Believing that every pet deserves a safe and loving home, the BC Pet Registry Grant Program is our way of extending a helping hand. This initiative empowers veterinarians and animal sheltering agencies to offer free microchips and registrations to pets with low-income guardians. It’s about making sure that financial constraints never stand in the way of a pet’s safety and well-being.

But that’s not all. We also support public microchip clinics, spay/neuter initiatives, and feral cat identification efforts. These activities are vital in keeping our furry friends safe and healthy. If you’re a veterinary clinic or shelter passionate about making a difference, we invite you to join us and make a lasting impact in our Pet Lovers Community.

The BC Pet Registry Grant Program enables participating veterinarians and animal sheltering agencies to provide free microchips and registrations to pets with low-income guardians. Other activities considered for eligibility are public microchip clinics, spay/neuter initiatives, and feral cat identification initiatives. To be considered, veterinary clinics or shelters must complete the grant application process.
