Pet-a-Palooza: BC Pet Registry Celebrates 10 Years of Protecting Pets

This year’s Pet-a-Palooza in Vancouver was an incredible success for the BC Pet Registry. We scanned 232 pets, shared important microchip registration reminders, and celebrated our 10-year anniversary with the community. Read on for highlights, event statistics, and why choosing the right pet registry matters for your pet’s safety.

Pet-a-Palooza: Keeping Vancouver Pets Safe and Connected

Pet-a-Palooza once again brought Vancouver’s pet community together, and the BC Pet Registry was honoured to take part in the festivities supporting pets and their guardians. As part of our mission to keep pets safe and reunited with their families, we scanned 232 microchipped pets at this year’s event. Unfortunately, 39 of those pets were not registered with any registry in North America, which is about 16.8% unregistered. Even one unregistered pet is too many, and our work continues to close that gap.

Celebrating Our 10-Year Anniversary

2025 Pet-a-Palooza BCPR 10 Year Anniversary

This year’s Pet-a-Palooza was extra special as it marked our 10-year anniversary. To celebrate, we handed out limited-edition fans that came in handy during the scorching weather. Guardians and pets alike were thankful for both the shade and the peace of mind from a quick microchip scan.

We are happy to report that the percentage of unregistered microchips has stayed consistent at around 16.5–16.8%, compared to 20% in 2023. This drop signals progress and growing awareness about the importance of registration. We hope to continue building on this vital work to ensure pets across British Columbia remain protected.

Gratitude for Our Volunteers

Despite the challenging heat, our dedicated volunteers showed incredible resilience. Their energy, compassion, and commitment never wavered. We were deeply inspired by the passion radiating from all of them worked tirelessly to support the BC Pet Registry’s mission.

They are the heart of this program. Their contribution makes a real difference, and we could not do this without them. From welcoming guardians to scanning pets, every action they took helped keep animals safe. We are truly grateful to have such a devoted team standing with us year after year.

Building Trust With Pet Guardians

One of the most heartwarming parts of Pet-a-Palooza was seeing guardians who returned to find us for the third year in a row. Many came specifically to request a quick re-scan, eager to ensure their pet’s microchip was easily scannable. They also expressed gratitude for our ongoing work in the community, reinforcing the importance of consistency and education. It’s moments like these that remind us why the BC Pet Registry is unlike any other.

This ongoing connection shows how much trust local guardians place in our mission. Every scan helps strengthen that bond, reminding pet owners that prevention is key when it comes to pet safety.

Why Choosing the Right Registry Matters

During Pet-a-Palooza, we also raised awareness about the differences between registries. Many guardians were surprised to learn that BC Pet Registry is the only non-profit registry in Canada that is dedicated to social change. Unlike for-profit registries, many of them are trying to upsell you with other products/services, some even charge for simple features like changing color to a pet’s profile, BC Pet Registry is committed to affordability and accessibility.

Your choice of registry directly impacts your pet’s safety and your community. Learn more about why BC Pet Registry stands apart: Why choose BC Pet Registry.

We are proud of the progress made at Pet-a-Palooza, but there’s still work to do. Every pet deserves to have a registered and scannable microchip. With your help, we can continue lowering the number of unregistered pets and building a safer future for animals in British Columbia.
