Thank you for adopting from the BC SPCA

Here’s what you need to know about your adopted pet and the BC Pet Registry, a program of the BC SPCA.

1. Microchip and Lifetime Registration:

Your newly adopted pet comes with a lifetime registered microchip. This microchip is linked directly to the BC SPCA’s provincial database during the completion of your adoption paperwork. In the event your pet is lost, this invaluable tool aids in a swift and successful reunion. Please make sure your account information is correct and up-to-date.

2. Inclusive Adoption Fee:

We believe in simplicity and transparency. The microchip, implantation service, and lifetime registration are seamlessly integrated into the adoption fee. No hidden costs—just a one-time adoption fee that covers everything your pet needs for a secure and happy life.

3. Easy Access with Your Account:

Enjoy a hassle-free experience with an automatically created account. Simply login using the email address you provided during adoption. This account allows you to manage your contact information and your pet’s details. Please ensure the information is up-to-date because approved veterinary and shelter staff relies on the registry to find you.

BC Pet Registry Benefits

1. Microchips are the most reliable form of permanent ID.

Microchips are the most reliable form of permanent ID for pets, when implanted properly and registered. Animals with permanent identification are reunited with their guardians in far greater numbers than animals with no identification.

2. Easy and quick procedure.

Microchip implantation is comparable to a routine vaccination. There is no need for anaesthetic when implanting a microchip and the procedure is over in minutes! Are you interested in getting a microchip for your pet? Make an appointment with one of our BC SPCA hospitals or ask your local vet about BC Pet Registry!

3. Microchips last the lifetime of your pet.

A microchip is not a GPS or tracking device. Microchips use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology which is only activated with the use of a microchip scanner. They do not require batteries like a GPS and last the lifetime of the animal.

4. Internationally traceable.

All microchips registered with the BC Pet Registry are traceable internationally via the American Animal Hospital Association’s (AAHA) universal pet microchip lookup, petmicrochiplookup.org. This partnership means that you can travel with your pet with confidence that you’re protected!

5. BC Pet Registry microchips are tested and safe.

The BC Pet Registry uses International Standards Organization (ISO) microchip technology, which is recommended by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA).
